Wedding Ceremony FAQs

Indoor options include the large 70 square metre Living Room in Hafod Barn and the Front Living Room / Drawing Room in Garth Country House, which are both licensed for weddings.

Outdoor options include various spaces in the beautiful gardens and grounds of the venue. Popular locations include the flat lawn area between Hafod Barn and Ty Nant Barn, which is very pretty and tranquil set against the backdrop of a small stream and cabana. It is also possible to install a medium sized marquee on the large flat lawn area to the rear of Ty Nant barn, as shown here by a previous couple who married outdoors, whilst also managing any weather-related risks! More rustic options include ceremonies by the boating lake or even in the woods nearby!

At the present time*, the ceremony may take place anywhere outside within the curtilage of the licensed premises, allowing couples many options for an outdoor wedding.

*Current laws reflect changes made to existing laws as a result of COVID which allowed ceremonies to take place outside. This is currently still in force, though it is important for couples to understand that these may be revoked in the future. Please do bear this in mind for weddings planned further in the future.

A registrar can be provided by Powys County Council to officiate your ceremony. In order to hold a legally-binding marriage ceremony, couples will need to book the time and date of their wedding and pay a standard fee directly to Powys County Council Registrar. The Registrar will provide a suitably qualified professional to officiate the marriage and ceremony. Please find further information here.

Up to 50 guests can be seated in the Front Room at Garth Country House, or up to 80 in Hafod Barn Living Area.

For outdoor ceremonies, the capacity for your ceremony will depend on where you choose to hold your ceremony, with plenty of options with enough space to seat up to 80 attendees.

There are no restrictions at the venue, with the day and ceremony itself yours to plan exactly as you wish! Please do note that the ceremony time will need to be confirmed with Powys County Council Registrar.

Yes. Seating for up to 80 attendees is available, for both indoor and outdoor use. These can be set up for you as per your wishes, and are complementary as part of your booking.

Retreat Hire FAQs

This will depend on the type of retreat and whether the entire venue is hired.  The large Living Area in Hafod Barn used used for the Shala will accommodate 24 to 30 participants, depending on the type of yoga.  For meditation retreats, 35 participants will have plenty of space.  There are 18 bedrooms, many with flexible bed arrangements which can be set up to your specification – many can be single, double or triple rooms.

Most retreat bookings are for the entire venue. However, it may be possible to just hire the Barns separately from Garth Country House, and vice versa. This depends on the time of year and exclusivity will depend on the terms agreed at booking. Generally speaking, there is more flexibility around how many properties are hired to guarantee venue exclusivity during the winter months (excluding school and public holiday dates). Please get in touch to discuss options for smaller groups.

When Garth Barns & Country House is hired all together, all facilities are exclusively available to you and your attendees. In other cases, exclusivity will depend on whether there are any other guests staying in another property at the venue, which can be confirmed at the time of booking.

The 70 square metre Living Area in Hafod Barn, which features a smooth oak floor and underfloor heating, provides an excellent space for a Shala during your retreat. In Garth Country House, the front Living Room / Drawing Room is also a large room capable of being transformed into a Shala for a smaller retreat of up to 10 (plus teacher / host).

There are various room configurations available. These range from single occupancy rooms (i.e. 1 double or queen bed), to twin (i.e. 1 double or queen bed and 1 single bed), to triple occupancy (i.e. 3 single beds). There is also one large quadruple room with 1 king size bed and 3 singles.

Garth Barns & Country House is located in a very quiet and tranquil countryside location. Furthermore, it is located at the heart of the 200 acre estate, with the nearest neighbours being approx 1km away! It really is very quiet!

Please note that when the venue is hired on a non-exclusive basis (which is always agreed at time of booking), the team at Garth Barns & Country House will do their utmost to ensure that any other group staying at the venue will in no way impact your retreat and the experience of your guests.

Absolutely! Please get in touch to discuss.

The 30% deposit secures your booking, with the balance (and £500 returnable security deposit) due 8 weeks before arrival. The deposit and the balance are both non-refundable. Should you cancel your booking prior the balance being due, there will be no additional penalty beyond non return of your 30% deposit.

For retreat bookings, dates can normally be reserved for 2 weeks for teachers to gauge interest and take deposits from their group, before the 30% deposit to secure your booking becomes payable.
